US Conducts Second Consecutive Night of Airstrikes in Yemen

Published January 13, 2024

In a repeated show of force, the United States has carried out another aerial onslaught on Al Dailami military base adjacent to Sana'a Airport, the capital of Yemen. This development was initially reported by Al Mayadeen, a Lebanese TV station. Following closely, Al Jazeera conveyed news of additional bombardments impacting the coastal city of Al Hudaydah, referring to claims from local inhabitants. Moreover, Reuters brought this information to the forefront upon confirmation from two US officials.

International Response

The UK authorities, at this juncture, have not verified whether British forces took part in the fresh strikes, leaving a gap in the full breadth of international involvement. Meanwhile, tensions continue to rise as the US persists in its air campaign over Yemeni soil.

Extent of Airstrikes

From Thursday night into early Friday, the United States, joining forces with five other nations, initiated a barrage of airstrikes targeting Houthi strongholds across various Yemeni cities including Sana'a, Al Hudayda, Dhamar, and Sa'dah. The Houthi faction confirmed these reports, detailing that the attacks were widespread and focused on populated centers.

Adding to the specifics of the military action, the United States Air Forces Central Command (AFCENT) disclosed that in these operations, over 100 precision-guided munitions were discharged, aiming at exceeding 60 Houthi-related targets scattered across 16 distinctive locations within Yemen.
