Palantir Stock Surges on Earnings Success and AI Demand

Published February 6, 2024

Palantir Technologies, a U.S.-based software company, saw its stock price soar by over 25% after disclosing its fourth-quarter earnings. The company, with its logo previously spotted in Davos, Switzerland, exceeded revenue expectations and showcased robust demand for its artificial intelligence products.

Quarterly Earnings Exceed Expectations

The company, recognized for its significant contributions to the U.S. government in defense and intelligence spheres, revealed a revenue increase of 20%, reaching $608.4 million for the quarter. This performance went beyond the $602.4 million that Wall Street analysts predicted. However, forecasts for the first quarter range from $612 million to $616 million, slightly below the anticipated $617 million by analysts.

CEO Highlights Sustained Demand for AI

In his address to shareholders, Palantir CEO Alex Karp emphasized the relentless demand for large language models within the U.S. With the aim to expand its Artificial Intelligence Platform, commonly known as AIP, Karp reported that the company executed nearly 600 pilot programs with the technology in the previous year.

Agencies Offer Upbeat Evaluations

Analysts from Citi have upgraded Palantir shares from 'sell' to 'neutral', increasing their price target from $10 to $20. They commended the company's performance in the fourth quarter, driven by its commercial division, though they expressed caution concerning full-year projections, particularly within international commercial markets.

Further confidence in Palantir's trajectory came from Jefferies analysts who lauded an 'impressive' quarter driven by U.S. commercial growth. These analysts previously downgraded Palantir, referencing the expected time it would take for the AI platform to make an impact. They now recognize an 'inflection point' and have since upgraded the shares. Despite this, valuation concerns persist due to a premium of 23% over the average large-cap stock.

Bank of America analysts have maintained their 'buy' rating, articulating that the AIP, while still in nascent stages, is significantly shaping the company's future. They anticipate that Palantir's AI-driven momentum will sustain and acknowledge considerable opportunities for Palantir's software in the U.S. government.
