AMD Dominates AI-Enabled PC Market with Over 90% Share

Published January 31, 2024

AMD has carved a significant niche for itself within the AI PC market. According to their latest financial report for the quarter that ended in December 2023, AMD's Ryzen CPUs are commanding a dominant market share, running on over 90% of AI-enabled PCs. This dominance represents a significant stride in AMD's venture into the AI sector, particularly on the CPU front.

Financial Growth Despite Market Shifts

Despite facing a 25% drop in client computing revenue, AMD's overall revenue for Q4 2023 stood at $6.1 billion, marking a growth of 6% sequentially and 10% yearly. Much of this success can be attributed to the strong sales of the new Ryzen 7000 series processors, contributing to a considerable 62% annual jump in revenue.

Ryzen's AI Prowess

In the AI landscape, AMD's Ryzen CPUs have become a powerhouse, a fact highlighted during their earnings presentation. These CPUs are not only popular but also integral to the current AI-enabled PC market.

Competition and Advancements

Dr. Lisa Su, the CEO of AMD, emphasized the competitive edge AMD holds over rivals like NVIDIA, noting that AMD offers varied AI products across CPUs and GPUs. The company's EPYC processors are not limited to data center usage; they also drive large training and inference clusters vital for AI processing tasks.

Expanding Data Center GPU Portfolio

Furthermore, Dr. Su highlighted the acceleration of AMD's data center GPU business, particularly the Instinct AI GPUs designed for the AI industry. The introduction of the MI300 accelerator family in December has received strong support from cloud providers, OEMs, and AI developers. AMD's MI300X GPUs are noted for their superior generative AI performance, which is powered by the advanced CDNA 3 architecture, providing industry-leading memory bandwidth and capacity.

The response from the customer base has been extremely positive, and AMD is intensifying the production to meet the robust demand from cloud services, enterprises, and supercomputing clients deploying their Instinct accelerators.
