Vancouver International Auto Show Shatters Attendance Records Following Tesla Exclusion
On March 24, 2025, it was announced that the Vancouver International Auto Show has achieved record-breaking attendance figures this year.
Organizers confirmed that the show's attendance reached over 138,000 visitors, surpassing previous records. Notably, Saturday alone saw more than 42,000 attendees, setting a new one-day record.
This surge in attendance comes after the show attracted international headlines by banning Tesla from participating due to safety concerns. The decision to exclude Tesla was rooted in the recent protests and vandalism that Tesla dealerships in Canada have faced. These incidents were reportedly exacerbated by CEO Elon Musk’s appointment to a prominent position within the U.S. government.
Eric Nicholl, the executive director of the Vancouver International Auto Show, highlighted that the safety of attendees, exhibitors, and workers was the primary concern leading to the ban on Tesla. In recent months, Tesla has become a focal point for activism against Musk's role in President Trump’s administration.
Despite Tesla supporters organizing a boycott of the auto show in response to the exclusion, the organizers have indicated that the show thrived instead, with attendees turning out in unprecedented numbers.
The situation reflects the complex dynamics within the automotive industry and the intricate relationship between corporate actions and public sentiment. As the electric vehicle market continues to grow, events like the Vancouver International Auto Show will play a pivotal role in showcasing innovations and addressing safety in the evolving landscape.
