Published March 19, 2024

Alphabet Inc., under its Google Cloud division, and renowned tech leader NVIDIA Corporation are taking their collaboration to new heights. This partnership is set to profoundly impact the artificial intelligence landscape.

Announcement Details

The announcement came to light after Jensen Huang, the CEO of NVIDIA, unveiled new product releases and strategic alliances at the GTC AI event. Google Cloud CEO, Thomas Kurian, highlighted the expansion of their partnership and introduced the adoption of NVIDIA's innovative Grace Blackwell AI computing platform and DGX Cloud services on Google Cloud. Moreover, the NVIDIA H100-powered DGX Cloud is now accessible to users on Google Cloud, marking a significant milestone for both entities.

Implications for AI Technologies

The cutting-edge Grace Blackwell platform is engineered to facilitate the construction and functioning of real-time inference on models with a trillion parameters or more. Google's internal deployment of the platform is underway, and it will soon be one of the foremost cloud service providers to offer Blackwell-powered instances. Additionally, Google will integrate NVIDIA’s NIM inference microservices, allowing developers a flexible, open environment to train and deploy AI models using their chosen tools and frameworks. The collaboration is further solidified with support for JAX on NVIDIA GPUs and Google's Vertex AI instances equipped with NVIDIA H100 and L4 Tensor Core GPUs.

Broader Industry Adoption

On the same day as the announcement, Huang also mentioned that not only Alphabet but other tech titans such as Amazon.com, Inc., Microsoft Corporation, and Oracle Corp. are preparing to embrace the Blackwell platform. This suggests an industry-wide move towards NVIDIA’s AI solutions, potentially accelerating technological advancements across various sectors.

In the face of escalating competition with major cloud providers like Microsoft, Google has signaled its commitment to augment its AI technology segment. Revealed in their recently reported financial earnings, Google Cloud's revenue reached $9.192 billion in the last quarter, indicating significant growth and expansion in this area.
