Hezbollah Deploys Advanced Iranian Missiles in Attacks on Israel

Published January 28, 2024

The conflict on Israel's northern frontier has escalated with Hezbollah utilizing sophisticated guided anti-tank weaponry and missiles in its recent offensive. This Lebanese group, identified as a terrorist organization by many nations, has been proactively claiming responsibility for a series of attacks while the Gaza conflict persists. In an attempt to garner support and display power, Hezbollah has publicized their assaults prominently through video propaganda, which includes carefully produced visuals conveying their military capacities.

Advanced Missile Capabilities Revealed

Documents from Hezbollah have detailed over ten incidents where they have asserted their role in attacks on Israeli lands. Accompanying these affirmations are precise maps indicating the impacted locations, and each day culminates with a cumulative briefing of their assaults. The Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar, which is closely connected with Hezbollah, disclosed the deployment of the 'Nour al-Golan' missile in these offensives. This missile is distinguished by its high-tech guidance system that allows it to hit targets beyond direct line of sight by following a curved trajectory and delivering real-time imagery to its controllers.

Introduction of the 'Fattah-1' Missile

Hezbollah recently acknowledged for the initial time that 'Fattah-1' missiles, of Iranian make, were launched at Israeli territory, specifically targeting the Upper Galilee region. Boasting a range of up to 10 kilometers, the 'Fattah-1' is a product of Iran's early 1990s armaments development and features a hefty 50 kg weight, with a body length of 1.32 meters and a diameter of 240 mm. An enhanced variant, known as 'Fattah-2', also exists. Prior reports from Al Jazeera emphasize Hezbollah's extensive and evolving arsenal, much of which is supplied by Iran. These armaments empower Hezbollah, which is often seen as one of the most well-prepared and heavily armed groups within the so-called 'Axis of Resistance'.
